About Mukuru Promotion Centre

Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC) is a faith-based charitable organization supporting communities in the informal settlements of Mukuru, South B, Nairobi.  The Sisters of Mercy founded MPC in 1985 in response to the community challenges in the Mukuru Informal Settlements.  It is situated at the heart of the Industrial Area, along the New Likoni Road just 1 km off Mombasa Road and borders the Mukuru Kayaba Informal Settlement.

MPC endeavors to empower the Mukuru community through education, health, welfare and social rehabilitation services.

About Our Lady of Mercy Vocational Training Centre

Our Lady of mercy vocational training center is one of the 9 programs under Mukuru promotion Center managed by the Sisters of Mercy. Its main purpose is to support the vulnerable youths from Mukuru slums and its environs by empowering them with skills in various fields so that it can improve their economic status and be able to sustain themselves.

Courses offered: Computer studies, Tailoring and dressmaking, Garment making, Hair dressing and beauty, Catering (food and beverage), Plumping and masonry, Welding and fabrication, Art and craft, DEEJAY.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements

· Must be a TVETA certified trainer.

· Strong practical knowledge in Food and Beverage production, nutrition, and food Science.

· Good proficiency in Mathematics and Entrepreneurship (added advantage).

· Bachelor is Degree in a Hospitality-related field.

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build harmonious relationships with students.

· Developed intercultural orientation and strong public relations skills.

· At least 4 years of relevant experience in a similar position.

· Ability to multi-task while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.

· Strong oral and written communication skills.

· Demonstrated interest in working with disadvantaged populations.


Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide a supportive learning environment for students to develop hospitality, practical, and subject-specific skills.

· Participate in the delivery of Diploma and Certificate programs.

· Develop and implement teaching and learning initiatives.

· Offer teaching and learning support, including module inductions, adapting delivery to suit learners’ needs.

· Deliver lectures, workshops, and practical sessions, providing feedback on student performance.

· Develop and design course content and materials, ensuring compliance with the College’s quality standards and regulations.

· Conduct seminars and tutorials, introducing new methods of delivery where necessary.

· Assess student performance through assignments, practical sessions, fieldwork, and examinations, providing appropriate feedback.

· Challenge thinking, foster debate, and develop students’ critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills.

· Supervise students’ work, provide study guidance, and support with learning challenges.

· Engage individually with students in both practical and theoretical sessions.

· Mentor students to become responsible and enterprising community members.

· Perform any other duties assigned by management.
