KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Security Strategy & Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and regularly update the hotel security plan and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing security risk assessments covering the hotel perimeter, guest areas, back-of-house, and staff accommodations.
  • Maintain a current threat analysis specific to the local environment and adjust security posture accordingly.
  • Advise the General Manager on security matters affecting operations, events, and VIP visits.

2. Access Control & Physical Security

  • Manage all access points to the hotel, ensuring strict control of vehicles, guests, visitors, and deliveries.
  • Oversee the operation of CCTV surveillance systems, ensuring full coverage, functionality, and 24/7 monitoring.
  • Supervise the search procedures for vehicles, luggage, and persons entering the premises.
  • Control and issue all keys, access cards, and security equipment, maintaining a strict register.

3. Guard Force Management

  • Recruit, train, deploy, and supervise the security guard team across all shifts.
  • Prepare duty rosters ensuring adequate coverage at all posts — main gate, reception, back gate, parking, and patrols.
  • Conduct daily briefings, drills, and ongoing training on emergency procedures, customer service, and use of equipment.
  • Enforce discipline, uniform standards, and professional conduct among security personnel.

4. Emergency Response & Incident Management

  • Serve as the incident commander during security emergencies including fire, medical incidents, civil unrest, or criminal activity.
  • Establish and maintain evacuation plans, assembly points, and emergency contact lists.
  • Coordinate with local police, military, private security providers, and emergency services as the situation demands.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills for staff across all departments.

5. Investigations & Reporting

  • Investigate all security incidents including theft, property damage, guest complaints, and staff misconduct.
  • Maintain a confidential incident log and produce detailed investigation reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Preserve evidence and, where appropriate, liaise with law enforcement for formal investigation.
  • Report daily, weekly, and monthly security statistics to the General Manager.

6. Liaison & External Relations

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with local security forces, police, intelligence services, and community leaders.
  • Coordinate with private security firms, alarm monitoring companies, and fire safety contractors.
  • Represent the hotel in security coordination meetings with other businesses, NGOs, and diplomatic missions where relevant.
  • Gather and share security intelligence affecting hotel operations and guest safety.

7. Staff & Guest Safety Awareness

  • Conduct security orientation and ongoing awareness training for all hotel staff.
  • Brief guests discreetly on safety protocols without causing alarm.
  • Ensure security presence is visible enough to deter threats but professional enough to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Diploma in Security Management, Criminology, or related field. A Bachelor's degree is an advantage.

Professional Training

Military, police, or certified private security training background is strongly preferred.

Experience

Minimum 5 years in security management, with at least 2 years in a hotel, diplomatic, or high-value asset protection environment.

Language

Fluency in Somali and English (both written and spoken).

 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of physical security systems including CCTV, access control, and alarm monitoring.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and discipline a security team.
  • Excellent incident investigation and report writing skills.
  • Calm under pressure with sound judgment in crisis situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to balance firmness with hospitality.
  • Understanding of the local security landscape, tribal dynamics, and political context.
  • Basic first aid and firefighting knowledge.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional discretion.

  • Zero serious security breaches on hotel property.
  • Incident response time under 3 minutes.
  • 100% of security staff trained and drilled quarterly.
  • All security equipment maintained and functional at all times.
  • Timely submission of incident reports (within 24 hours).
  • Positive feedback on guest sense of safety and security presence.
  • Effective access control with zero unauthorized entries recorded.
