Job Description We are an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and suffering in the world’s poorest countries. Concern Worldwide began working in Kenya in May with the development of an urban programme in Nairobi. Our work expanded into a multi-sectoral programme focusing on urban and rural livelihoods, primary education, HIV and AIDS, water and sanitation, and health and nutrition in both Nairobi and Marsabit. In partnership with local organisations, Concern also responds to a number of emergencies in Kenya resulting from floods, drought and violence.Main Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement annual communication and visibility plans in order to raise Concern’s profile, donor visibility, learning and fundraising effortsManage Concern’s digital and social media accounts, monitor the feedback from audiences and provide necessary responses based on Concern communication proceduresProduce/coordinate production of IEC materials on Concern Kenya programmes for sharing programme information with various stakeholdersProduce written and audio/visual content which promotes impact of Concern’s work on programme participantsDevelop/coordinate development of high quality written and audio-visual content that is, relevant, compelling and interesting for a variety of external and internal online and offline audiencesTravel to programme implementation areas to collect media and communication content, create visibility and support media coverage of Concern programmes.Manage all external communication (visits, requests, events etc.) with a lens of quality oversight and Concern brandingBuild and maintain relationships with national media contacts in Concern’s areas of operationTrain programme staff and partners in basic communications skills (story gathering, case studies, photography, videography etc.)Develop appropriate process, systems, storage and archiving for in country communications materials whether written or visualEnsure all documentation and communications are in line with the Concern’s communication guidelines for images, messages, print, electronic or social mediaPrepare progress on Concern’s communication outputs and resultsProvide all necessary communication and media support for Concern’s emergency response, as and when necessaryAny other media and communications related duties as may be assigned by the line manager from time to time Others Adhere to and promote the standards outlined in the Concern Code of Conduct and associated policies to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environmentParticipating and contributing towards Concern’s emergency response, as and when necessaryTake all possible measure to meet Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)Any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager Person SpecificationMinimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communication, Journalism, Digital Media or related disciplineThree years experience in media and communication such as producing written and audio-visual content, graphic design/publication designing preferably in the humanitarian sectorFluent in both spoken and written English and KiswahiliComputer literate with good MS Office skillsOne year experience of managing digital and social media pages of a humanitarian organizationExcellent communication & interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build good relationships internally and externally for effective teamwork Preference will be given to candidates who have: High integrity and demonstrated ability to follow standards and policiesAbility to work in a systematic and organized mannerAbility to attend detailsAbility to work under pressure and to deadlinesEnergy to work long hours and be out in the field all dayPositive attitude and willingness to learn Competencies required: Managing self: Awareness of own abilities and uses abilities to work well with others to achieve your work and Concern’s objectives.Individual leadership: Inspire others by clearly articulating and demonstrating the Concern’s values and principles supports others to achieve excellent results.Creativity and Innovation: Continual improvement by developing and implementing new ideas for effective and efficient progress towards the agreed communication objectives.Communicating and working with others: Proactively and effectively share information with others.
