Job Summary

The Production Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in managing and leading the production team, ensuring that production targets are met, ensuring that quality standards and safety regulations are followed. The role holder is responsible for planning and scheduling production activities, identifying opportunities for improvement, and communicating effectively with other departments to ensure that production activities support the overall success of the business. The role holder shall lead by example, demonstrating leadership and initiative, holding themselves accountable for the success and challenges being faced by the department.

Job Description/Requirements

• Supervision and management: The production shift supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the production process during their shift, ensuring that production goals are met and that quality standards are maintained.

• Production target achievement: The production shift supervisor is responsible for achievement of production targets during their shift, ensuring that products are produced on time, to the required quality standards, and in the required quantity.

• Team management: The production shift supervisor is responsible for managing and leading the production team during their shift, providing guidance and support as needed, and ensuring that team members are working together effectively.

• Quality control: The production shift supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all products meet quality standards, and for identifying and addressing any quality issues that arise during production.

• Planning and scheduling: The production shift supervisor is responsible for planning and scheduling production activities, including staffing, machine usage, and materials, to ensure that production targets are met.

• Health and safety: The production shift supervisor is responsible for understanding and complying to industry safety standards and ensuring that all production activities are carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices. This includes planning for health and safety workshops / training / toolbox meetings to ensure that all production staff are adequately trained on health and safety.

• Continuous improvement: The production shift supervisor is responsible for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in the production process, and for implementing changes to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality.

• Reporting and documentation: The production shift is responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation of production activities, including production reports, quality control records, and staffing records.

• Communication and collaboration: The production shift supervisor is responsible for communicating effectively with other departments, such as maintenance and logistics, to ensure that production activities are aligned with overall business goals and objectives.

• Take overall responsibility to monitor and complete deputed projects, including projects assigned to your team.


Performance and People Management

• Provide leadership to employees under your leadership. This includes continuously mentoring, training, and development of the team members to improve their technical skills and knowledge.

• Complete performance reviews, manage attendance, leave, disciplinary issues and procedures in line with the company’s policies and procedures.

• Ensure strong communication between staff under your leadership to facilitate exchange of information and to implement change and improvements.

• Maintain the strictest level of confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with information concerning the company including salaries, performance, pricing, new products development, and any other information.

• Perform other duties as allocated.

Knowledge and skills

• Diploma in mechanical / industrial engineering, or similar field.

• Previous work experience as a shift supervisor or similar role, in a manufacturing environment.

• Knowledge of health and safety protocols i.e., OSHA safety standards and regulations.

• Working knowledge of Kaizen principles.

• Comprehensive knowledge of basic software, such as Ms Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Good communication and report writing skills.

• Good time-management skills. Respectful of time, able to meet strict deadlines under minimal supervision, with a willingness to work overtime.

• The ability to meet the physical demands of the job, such as standing up for long hours and lifting heavy loads occasionally.

• Working well within a team.

• Leadership and conflict-management skills.
