Job Summary

Mount Elgon Trust Guest House is seeking a skilled, passionate, and reliable Chef to join our hospitality team. The ideal candidate will prepare high-quality meals, maintain excellent kitchen standards, and contribute to the warm, welcoming experience we provide to all guests.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meals according to the guest house menu and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure all dishes are presented attractively and consistently.
  • Develop new menu items and improve existing dishes where necessary.

Kitchen Management

  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of the kitchen at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Manage kitchen inventory and ensure proper storage of food items.
  • Monitor food stock levels and report shortages or supply needs in advance.

Coordination & Service

  • Work collaboratively with guest house staff to ensure timely meal service.
  • Cater for special functions, meetings, or guest events when requested.
  • Engage positively with guests when required, ensuring their dining needs are well attended to.

Cost Control & Reporting

  • Minimize food wastage through proper planning and portion control.
  • Assist in budgeting, ordering, and maintaining accurate kitchen records.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources to maintain cost-effective operations.

Health & Safety

  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Ensure safe use of kitchen equipment and promptly report any faults or hazards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Catering, Culinary Arts, or related field.
  • Proven experience working as a Chef.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, hygiene, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
