Nature of Position:
Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. UNHCR has developed a $1 Billion Private Sector Fundraising Strategy 2018-2025. This strategy focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) and identifies priority fundraising markets and regions.
This PSP Support Officer function sits in the Partnership Support Unit (PSU), and is part of multi-functional team reporting to the Head of the Partnership Support Unit in Copenhagen.
PSU has a support and clearance function to the global PSP network of fundraisers and national associations (in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and MENA), while also playing an integral role in strengthening cooperation with key institutional stakeholders namely the Regional Bureaux, Field Operations and Divisions to support PSP fundraising opportunities. PSU aims to strengthen private sector donorsâ experience and position UNHCR as a trustworthy and reliable partner.
The Unit supports fundraisers and relationship managers along the donor journey, serving as a bridge between the fundraising network and the rest of UNHCR, and is critical to the success of PSP achieving its $1 billion fundraising ambitions.
Reporting to the Head of Unit, the incumbent will be based in Nairobi, working in close collaboration with the PSP Regional Chief for Africa based in Nairobi. The incumbent will be based closer to East and Horn of Africa & Great Lakes (EHAGL) field operations. In addition, the incumbent will provide support in researching, developing, and coordinating fundraising proposals across the EHAGL region or if necessary for specific campaigns. The PSP Support Officer is also responsible for the clearance of funding space, implementation capacity and UNHCR grant agreements for PPH contributions to the region. The PSP Officer will guide fundraisers and ensure that the fundraising activities are targeted towards UNHCR priority areas and budgetary needs.
PSP has identified a need for predictable and systematic support for fundraising projects as well as for credible reporting to donors. Thus, the PSP Support Officer will be expected to contribute to PSP capacity to develop donor targeted fundraising proposals within the EHAGL region that will drive PSP to realize the ambitious targets set for fundraising from the private sector in both, the immediate and long term.
