Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in animal science, food science and technology, animal nutrition, agricultural engineering, or a related field.
- A masters degree in a relevant field is an added advantage. Familiarity with automated feed milling systems and plant machinery. Should have deep expertise in animal nutrition, feed formulation techniques and operational leadership within a busy feed mill or related manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of raw material markets (local and international). Proficiency in feed formulation software.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks governing animal feed production in kenya.
- Competency in ms office suite, erp systems, and production management tools. Knowledge of iso, haccp, and other quality systems is an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel to raw material suppliers, farms, or other company sites when required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in feed mill operations or related manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience managing large scale feed production operations from raw material sourcing to final packaging.
- Experience in formulation of animal feed and deep understanding of animal nutritional needs.
Salary: Kshs. 200,000 - 300,000 plus company benefits
Duties:
- Feed mill manager will lead and manage the full spectrum of operations at an animal feed manufacturing facility in mt. Kenya region.
- He/she will be responsible for end to end operations including raw material sourcing, feed formulation, production, packaging, and compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards by performing the following responsibilities:- operations management: - oversee the day to day running of the feed mill to ensure efficient production and delivery of high quality feed products.
- Develop and implement operational procedures to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and ensure operational readiness of machinery and equipment.
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources (manpower, raw materials, machinery, energy, etc.).
- Raw material sourcing & inventory management: - lead the procurement process of raw materials, ensuring cost effectiveness, quality, and reliability of supply.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers.
- Monitor stock levels and manage inventory to avoid overstocking or stockouts.
- Conduct regular quality checks on incoming raw materials.
- Feed formulation & product development: - oversee feed formulation processes based on nutritional requirements for different animal species.
- Collaborate with nutritionists, veterinarians, and r&d teams to develop and improve feed formulations.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in blending and formulation processes. Production & packaging: - plan and manage production schedules to meet customer demand and delivery timelines.
- Monitor key performance indicators (kpis) related to production efficiency, yield, quality, and cost.
- Ensure correct packaging and labelling of all finished products in compliance with standards.
- Quality assurance & compliance: - implement and enforce strict quality control systems at every stage of the production process.
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory bodies such as kebs, nema, and dvs. Uphold best practices in health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Lead audits (internal and external) and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Team leadership & development: - supervise, train, and motivate a multidisciplinary team including production staff, quality controllers, technicians, and support staff.
- Foster a performance driven culture through coaching, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct staff performance reviews and identify training needs. Budgeting & cost control: - prepare and manage the operational budget for the feed mill. Monitor and control operational costs to ensure profitability.
