The Chief Miller is responsible for overseeing the entire milling process, ensuring the production of high-quality flour and grain products. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and operational management to maintain efficiency, safety, and product standards within the mill.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Milling operations: Supervise and coordinate daily milling activities, from grain intake to finished product.
- Quality assurance: Monitor product quality, conduct tests, and ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
- Equipment management: Oversee operation, maintenance, and calibration of milling machinery to minimize downtime.
- Process optimization: Implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance output.
- Safety compliance: Enforce workplace safety regulations, dust control measures, and proper use of PPE.
- Team leadership: Train, mentor, and supervise mill staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Inventory control: Manage raw grain intake, storage, and finished product distribution.
- Reporting: Prepare production reports, track performance metrics, and communicate with management.
- Fortification Oversight: Supervise grain fortification processes, ensuring precise dosing of micronutrients (e.g., iron, zinc, folic acid) into raw milling inputs, compliance with national food safety standards, and accurate record-keeping for regulatory audits.
- Degree in Food Science, Milling Technology, Agriculture, or related field.
- Professional certification from a recognized milling institution.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in flour milling, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of grain properties, milling processes, and quality standards.
- Proficiency in mill automation systems and production software.
