Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled, hands-on Broiler Farm Manager with a veterinary or animal husbandry background to lead our 20,000-bird commercial broiler unit in Isenya.

The farm operates an open-sided housing system with cross-ventilation fans. This role requires exceptional expertise in environmental management (curtain control, temperature moderation, and airflow), disease prevention, and team leadership.

Work Schedule

35–40 Days On-Site: Full residential stay throughout the active grow-out cycle.

10–14 Days Off: Consecutive off-duty leave during the house downtime/turnaround period once terminal cleaning and disinfection are approved.

Key Responsibilities

1. Flock & House Management

● Manage brooding, feeding, lighting schedules, and water distribution for 20,000 broilers to achieve target harvest weights and target Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR).

● Actively manage the open-sided curtain systems and cross-ventilation fans to maintain optimal shed temperatures, prevent heat stress during peak afternoon heat, and avoid drafts at night.

● Conduct daily uniformity checks, crop fill sampling during early brooding, and weekly weight sampling.

2. Veterinary Health & Biosecurity

● Implement and strictly oversee the farm vaccination, deworming, and water sanitation/medication programs.

● Conduct immediate post-mortem examinations (necropsies) on dead birds, diagnose pathology early, and execute corrective action.

● Enforce farm biosecurity, including vehicle disinfection, footbaths, protective gear, and strict access controls.

3. Team Leadership & Supervision

● Directly manage, schedule, and supervise 5 farm attendants, ensuring task allocation for feeding, litter turning, drinker sanitization, and mortality collection.

● Train workers on animal welfare, correct bird handling, and biosecurity hygiene.

4. Turnaround & Downtime Operations

● Lead the deep cleaning, litter removal, pressure washing, disinfection, and rodent/pest management between cycles.

● Ensure house pre-heating, drinker line flushing, and equipment testing are completed 24 hours prior to chick placement.

5. Record Keeping & Performance Reporting

● Maintain daily flock logs covering feed delivered/consumed, water intake, daily mortality and culls, and shed temperature/humidity fluctuations.

● Prepare comprehensive end-of-cycle performance reports covering:

○ Final FCR

○ Mortality %

○ Average Live Weight

○ EPEF (European Production Efficiency Factor)

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Degree or Diploma in Veterinary Medicine (BVM/DVM), Animal Health & Production, Animal Science, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of practical management experience in commercial broiler production, with hands-on experience managing flocks of 10,000+ birds.

Technical Mastery: Proven understanding of open-sided shed climate management, including curtain manipulation and mechanical ventilation, broiler nutrition, and pathology.

Leadership: Strong supervision skills with experience directing and motivating general farm labour.

Commitment: Willingness to reside fully on-site in Isenya for the entire 35–40 day production cycle.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: Competitive monthly salary, negotiable based on qualifications and track record.

High-Performance Cycle Bonus: Attractive, tiered commission paid at the end of each cycle based on achieving targeted FCR, low mortality, and live harvest weight.

Accommodation & Board: Dedicated, furnished on-farm housing provided, with all meals fully covered during the production cycle.

Scheduled Leave: 10–14 paid days off between batches.
