Job summary
This is a position responsible for developing and coordinating health and safety systems in the organisation. The incumbent will be identifying hazards, assess risks to health and safety, put appropriate safety controls in place and provide advice about accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees.

- Monitoring department performance to align with business objectives
- Resolving issues and challenges within the department
- Establishing systems, processes, and procedures
- Preparing divisional budgets and ensuring implementation
- Promoting occupational health and safety
- Ensuring correct storage of dangerous materials
- Chairing health and safety committees and documenting minutes
- Identifying and testing work areas for hazards (toxic fumes, explosive gas-air mixtures) and implementing controls
- Assisting with worker rehabilitation after accidents
- Coordinating emergency procedures, rescues, firefighting, first aid crews
- Coordinating accident investigations and recommending remedial action
- Planning and coordinating fire drills
- Conducting training sessions on health and safety practices and legislation
- Preparing training materials
- Providing health and safety meetings and training courses for employees
- Inspecting workplaces and equipment for safety regulation compliance
- Ensuring conformity with organisational procedures and safety standards
- Inspecting/evaluating environment, equipment, processes for compliance with government regulations and industry standards
- Keeping up to date with health and safety legislation
- Ensuring use of personal protective equipment (hearing protection, dust masks, safety glasses, footwear, helmets)
- Advising management on technical and administrative activities of safety, health, and emergency response programs
- Drafting necessary correspondence from the division
- Communicating frequently with management on program status
- Ensuring reporting requirements met internally and to regulatory bodies
- Performing any other duties assigned
- Diploma/Higher Diploma in any relevant field
- Certificate in Health and Safety from a recognized institution
- Minimum of 4 years of experience; 2 years in health and safety
- Professional certification by relevant bodies
- Competencies Required:
- Extensive knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act
- Proactive and self-driven
- Good decision-making skills
