TERMS OF REFERENCE
Background and Justification
With global warming being one of the most serious issues in the world, Yoma aims at growing its opportunities for climate action through âGreen Yomaâ in 2021. In this connection, the African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA) plays a vital role in building local capacity to drive the green transition. With youth engaging in tree planting or safeguarding healthy wetlands for carbon storage, enhancing nutrition security through agroforestry, improving water quality, providing habitat, etc. Green Yoma aims to tackle climate change by enhancing alternative livelihood opportunities while putting an emphasis on green economy in deprived areas. The evaluation of impact made will be done via georeferenced cell-phone pictures, and drone & satellite acquired imagery displaying a specific development along a timeline. The use of automated data oracles will allow scaling impact assessment at very low cost. This will allow youth in the global south to be compensated by climate change mitigation investments made by private sector in the global north - while growing in action, improving their livelihoods and ecological environment!
Measuring impact made through these different data sources requires a specialized skill-set as provided at ADDA. The 21st century skills taught at ADDA support UNICEFâs âYouth for Childrenâ concept, meaning that young people and their support to mitigate climate change or sustainable agriculture has a direct benefit for children.
Scaling of both ADDA and Green Yoma will need a dedicated consultant who accompanies the ADDA use cases in line with Green Yoma projects from a human centered design perspective to allow ADDA graduates to transition into green employment. The consultant will have an understanding of Yomaâs âlearning to earningâ concept and work experience in talent management, bring theoretical expertise in the psychological development of youth, as well as work experience in behavioral change of young people ( through volunteering), and a design thinking background to support green Yomaâs work in just transition. The consultant will also support the creation of media content.
