Job descriptions & requirements
The Garage Manager will be responsible for the overall success and profitability of the garage, including but not limited to:
Operations Management:
- Oversee daily garage operations, ensuring high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Manage the service schedule, workflow, and allocation of tasks to technicians.
- Ensure all repair and maintenance work meets company and industry standards.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of technicians, mechanics, and support staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs.
- Foster a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment.
Customer Service & Sales:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for complex customer issues or complaints.
- Oversee the vehicle check-in and delivery process, ensuring clear communication with customers regarding repair status, cost estimates, and timelines.
- Develop strategies to increase service sales and customer retention.
Inventory & Financial Management:
- Manage and control inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring optimal stock levels.
- Monitor and control operating expenses and manage the garage budget to achieve profitability targets.
- Prepare regular reports on financial performance, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Compliance:
- Ensure the garage adheres to all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- To be considered for this vital role, the candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a management or supervisory role within an active auto repair garage, service center, or dealership.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong, hands-on understanding of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures (both petrol and diesel engines are a plus).
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate a diverse team of technical professionals.
- Business Acumen: Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, and sales generation.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for dealing with customers, suppliers, and staff.
- Education: A Diploma or Degree in Automotive Engineering, Business Management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant professional certifications will be an advantage.
