Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized HR Manager to oversee the administrative and operational HR functions within a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on ensuring smooth day-to-day HR operations, strong compliance with labour laws and regulatory requirements, and effective employee relations across both factory and office staff.
Key Responsibilities
Compensation, Payroll & Labour Cost Control
- Ownership and validation of payroll processes
- Compensation structuring (salary bands, overtime control, allowances, benefits including NHIF/NSSF)
- Monitoring and control of labour cost, including alignment with production output.
HR Policies, Contracts & Legal Risk Management
- Development and enforcement of HR policies, SOPs, and employee handbook
- Clear disciplinary procedures and legally compliant termination frameworks
- Proper structuring of employment types (permanent, casual, contract) in line with Kenyan labour laws
- Handling labour disputes and mitigation of legal exposure
Industrial Relations & Workforce Stability
- Union awareness and engagement (where applicable)
- Exposure to Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs)
- Mechanisms to prevent disruptions such as strikes or workforce instability
Performance Management
- Implementation of structured performance management systems (KPIs by function, appraisal cycles)
- Performance improvement processes (PIPs)
- Linking performance outcomes to retention and compensation decisions
Training & Capability Development
- Training needs assessment (TNA) across factory and office functions
- Oversight of mandatory factory training
- Development of supervisors and line managers
Health, Safety & EHS Coordination
- Alignment with Operations/EHS on workplace safety compliance
- Incident reporting, disciplinary linkage, and worker welfare
HR Systems & Data Management
- Implementation or management of HR systems
- Digitization and accuracy of HR data
- Use of HR data for reporting and decision support
Foreign Workforce Compliance (if applicable)
- Work permits and immigration compliance
- Cost and structure management of foreign employees
Exit Management & Risk Control
- Structured offboarding processes
- Knowledge transfer enforcement
- Legal risk mitigation during terminations
SEZ / Manufacturing Environment Considerations
- Workforce management aligned to shift-based production
- compliance with labour expectations in an export-oriented setup
Key Requirements
● 5–7 years of HR experience in a similar role
● Strong background in manufacturing or FMCG industries (preferred); export sector exposure is an advantage
● Solid understanding of HR operations in a factory or production environment
● Strong knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and HR compliance requirements
● Exposure to multinational environments is an added advantage
● Experience working with both local and foreign staff is desirable
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
● High level of integrity, organization, and attention to detail
Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Chief of Administration
Work Environment
● Fully on-site role (factory-based operations)
● Working schedule: Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
