Liaises with: Bakery staff, stores, catering department staff, managers and external clients
Job Summary
The Pastry Chef is a skilled professional responsible for preparing a wide variety of delicious desserts, pastries, and sweet goods. He/ She creates new and enticing recipes, decorate pastries to ensure beautiful presentation, and maintain the quality of ingredients and equipment. The Pastry Chef has expertise in baking techniques, recipe development, and pastry decoration, using their creativity to craft enticing treats
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
· Ensure timely cake and pastry production for timely packaging and delivery of products.
· Follow recipes and adjust as necessary based on batch size or specific customer requirements
· Monitor and inspect the consistency, texture, and appearance of products to ensure they meet the bakery's high quality standards
· Measure and prepare ingredients for baking products.
· Ensure that all ingredients are fresh and stored properly.
· Experiment with new and approved recipes or variations on existing products to create unique baked goods.
· Adapt traditional and approved recipes for the local market and customer preferences.
· Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify the supervisor of re-order level.
· Maintain records of ingredients used, production sheets and inventory turnover
· Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bakery work area and equipment.
· Adhere to food safety regulations and hygiene practices.
· Ensure that all equipment are cleaned and maintained according to bakery protocols
· Assist in marketing and promotional activities to increase sales in the Bakery
Requirements / Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in food and Beverage, Baking Technology or relevant field
- 3 to 5 years relevant work experience
- A Food and Safety Hygiene certification
- Business Management and Supervisory training would be an added advantage.
- Proficiency working with Ms Word and Excel
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good judgement and a high level of integrity and respect for confidentiality
