In this role, your duties will include ensuring accurate salary payments, calculating overtime earnings, and updating employee hiring or termination information on the payroll system.To ensure success as a payroll accountant, you should demonstrate knowledge of applicable tax laws and ideally have experience in a similar role. A first-class payroll accountant will be detail-oriented and someone who can accurately and timely process salaries.Payroll Accountant Responsibilities Preparing ledger entries with earnings and deductions.Entering payroll information and maintaining payroll files.Calculating salaries, overtime earnings, and vacation deductions.Issuing paychecks on time.Generating payroll reports for Managers to review.Updating payroll systems, including employment hires and terminations.Preparing payroll and tax reports for any government agencies when required.Attending payroll inquiries from employees.Manage attendance reports, and payroll processing and oversee all account managers to ensure accurate and efficient results.Communicate with all new employees to explain payroll and timekeeping procedures, benefits information, and tax withholding details, and to create profiles and settings in payroll software programs.Oversee implementation of new payroll and timekeeping software, including meeting with IT professionals for intensive training sessions and helping all payroll personnel learn to use the new system correctly.Assist in payroll calculations, changes, and deductions.Reconciling and filing of all the statutory payments (NSSF, NHIF, PAYE etc) with their respective authorities on time.Calculate taxes and file returns based on KRA regulations.Process payroll on a timely basis and ensure compliance with current tax legislation.Accurate preparation of payroll reports to the Kenya Revenue Authority as per set timelines.Analyze payroll issues and provide action plans.Generate monthly payroll reports for review by managersAddress payroll inquiries from employees on time.Accurate computation and calculation of termination dues for employees leaving the organization.Conduct payroll audits and liaise with both internal and external auditors.Handle and respond to discrepancies and queries relating to payroll.Calculate and process accurate payments to employees by cash, cheque, or electronic transfer, ensuring strict deadlines are met.Issue relevant tax forms.Process new documentation for starters and leavers Requirements An associates or bachelors degree in accounting.Fundamental Payroll Certification CPA KA minimum of two years experience as a Payroll Accountant, or in a similar role.Proficiency in Payroll Software.Extensive experience in preparing ledger entries and processing payments.In-depth knowledge of applicable tax laws.Experience in preparing payroll and tax reports, as well as answering payroll inquiries.Ability to maintain and update employees payroll files.Excellent organizational and communication skills.
