Job Title: School Counsellor & Nurse
Reports To: HR
1. Purpose of the Role
To provide holistic wellbeing, counselling, and medical support to students and staff. This role combines emotional and mental health support with medical care, first aid, health education, and safeguarding responsibilities. The post holder ensures that students are healthy, safe, supported, and able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Student Counselling & Emotional Support
● Offer confidential one-to-one counselling sessions for students facing emotional,
behavioural, social, or academic challenges.
● Provide early intervention for students exhibiting signs of stress, anxiety, bullying, or wellbeing concerns.
● Offer crisis intervention when needed and liaise with external mental health professionals where appropriate.
● Maintain strict confidentiality and accurate counselling records.
B. School Medical Care & First Aid
● Provide first aid, emergency care, and routine medical support to students and staff.
● Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries during school hours.
● Administer p rescribed medication as per parental and school guidelines.
● Ensure readiness and medical coverage for school events, sports days, and educational trips.
C. Safeguarding & Child Protection
● Act as an integral member of the safeguarding team.
● Recognise early signs of emotional, physical, or psychological harm and escalate appropriately.
● Document and report safeguarding concerns in line with school policies.
● Support vulnerable and at-risk students sensitively and professionally.
D. Health Monitoring & Record Keeping
● Maintain accurate and confidential health and counselling records for all students.
● Track students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, epilepsy) and ensure action plans are updated.
● Maintain daily medical logs and documentation of incidents, treatments, or referrals.
● Monitor immunisation status where applicable.
E. Wellbeing, Pastoral & Health Education
● Design and deliver wellbeing sessions, workshops, or assemblies on topics such as mental health, resilience, hygiene, puberty, nutrition, digital safety, and relationships.
● Provide staff awareness training on both mental and physical health issues affecting
students.
● Support the school’s pastoral programme and contribute to whole-school wellbeing
initiatives.
F. Staff & Parent Engagement
● Offer guidance to teachers on managing student emotional or health needs in the
classroom.
● Advise parents on child behaviour, mental health concerns, medical matters, or referrals.
● Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.
G. Compliance, Safety & Administration
● Ensure the medical room and counselling space are safe, well-organised, and fully
equipped.
● Oversee first aid kits across the school and maintain supplies.
● Ensure compliance with all school health policies and Ministry of Health regulations.
● Contribute to policy development and termly reports on wellbeing, medical trends, and risks.
