Job Summary
Our client, a leading construction company based in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced Architectural Draftsman to join their growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed architectural drawings, construction plans, and technical documentation to support various residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in architectural drafting within the construction industry and possess strong technical knowledge of building design, construction methodologies, and architectural standards. The role requires a proactive, results-driven, and detail-oriented professional who can work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, project managers, and site teams.
Candidates should be mature professionals (preferably above 28 years of age) with a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality architectural designs.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed architectural drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and construction details using CAD software.
• Interpret architectural concepts and transform them into accurate technical drawings and specifications.
• Develop working drawings for residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, quantity surveyors, and project managers to ensure design accuracy and project compliance.
• Revise and update drawings based on design modifications, site conditions, and client requirements.
• Ensure all drawings comply with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Conduct site visits to verify dimensions, collect project information, and ensure alignment between designs and actual site conditions.
• Prepare presentation drawings, 3D visualizations, and design layouts where required.
• Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
• Assist in project planning, material coordination, and technical support during project implementation.
• Collaborate with project teams to identify design challenges and recommend practical solutions.
• Ensure timely completion of drawings and project deliverables while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Design, Construction Technology, or a related field.
• Certification in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, ArchiCAD, SketchUp, or other relevant architectural design software will be an added advantage.
• Membership with relevant professional bodies will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
• Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience as an Architectural Draftsman within the construction industry.
• Demonstrated experience working on commercial, residential, mixed-use, or industrial construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, building regulations, and architectural detailing.
• Experience preparing detailed construction drawings and technical documentation.
• Previous experience working closely with architects, engineers, and construction teams.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (Mandatory).
• Working knowledge of Revit Architecture.
• Experience using SketchUp, ArchiCAD, Lumion, or other 3D modeling software.
• Strong understanding of architectural drafting standards and construction documentation.
• Ability to prepare detailed shop drawings and working drawings.
• Knowledge of building materials, construction techniques, and project coordination.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
