Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plan and deliver engaging English and Literature lessons for students in Year 7 to Year 11, aligned with the school's curriculum and academic standards.
2. Develop students' proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening, while fostering a strong appreciation for literature.
3. Teach a range of literary texts, including novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction, appropriate to students' age and curriculum requirements.
4. Design lessons that develop students' critical thinking, analysis, interpretation, communication and creative writing skills.
5. Prepare and administer assessments aligned with curriculum requirements and academic standards, providing constructive feedback to support students' progress.
6. Foster an inclusive, stimulating and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation, discussion and a love for reading and literature.
7. Support and encourage students in developing strong written and verbal communication skills.
8. Organise and support extracurricular activities such as reading clubs, literary societies, debating, creative writing and drama activities.
9. Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects, school-wide initiatives and other academic activities.
10. Maintain accurate records of students' progress, assessment results, attendance and academic performance.
11. Provide appropriate support and guidance to students to help them achieve their academic and personal potential.
12. Participate in departmental meetings, parent engagements, professional development activities and other school programmes as required.
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
· Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenya.
· A Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Literature or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
· At least 5 years of teaching experience within an international curriculum.
· Experience teaching English and Literature to students at Year 7 to Year 11 level.
· Strong knowledge of English and Literature curriculum, assessment and instructional practices.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong instructional, analytical and classroom management skills.
· Ability to inspire students to develop a love for reading, writing and literature.
· Creativity and the ability to use engaging and innovative teaching approaches.
· Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
· Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively within a diverse international school environment.
