Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Executive Office (EO) provides leadership in global environmental agenda-setting, to implement legislative mandates of UNEP, and the General Assembly, to ensure coherent delivery of the programme of work and to ensure management of human resources in accordance with UN policies and procedures. This post is located in the Evaluation Office at the Nairobi duty station. The Evaluation Office has a mandate to evaluate all UNEP projects and programmes to serve the organizational objectives of (i) informing evidence-based decision making to improve programmatic planning, implementation results, monitoring and reporting, (ii) providing substantive accountability to Member States, funding partners and the general public and (iii) promoting organisational learning. Under the direct supervision of the UNEP's Executive Director, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
