ABOUT THE COMPANY

GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ’s main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.

JOB SUMMARY

A. BackgroundAs an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally-owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. In Kenya, GIZ has been working for 43 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and for other international donors. GIZ is also working in Somalia on sectors such as infrastructural development, food and nutrition and better migration management. The projects and programmes are managed from GIZ’s country office in Kenya.The Better Migration Management (BMM) program aims to improve migration governance in the region, and in particular to curb the trafficking of human beings and the smuggling of migrants within and from the Horn of Africa. BMM is implemented by GIZ in partnership with IOM, UNODC and CIVIPOL. The programme is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Programme Protection Advisor:Is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities and other tasks required for implementing these components and for achieving overall programme indicators in line with GIZ and programme standards; Supports the preparation of budgets and monitoring and documenting of expenses for project activities in accordance with the prevailing provisions; Is responsible for documenting training events, workshops, forums, meetings and other project activities in line with GIZ standards; Assists the project with all issues as required at the request of management;Contributes knowledge, ideas, feedback and lessons learned to the programme team for continuous learning, improvement and innovation; Proactively advises programme partners; Maintains of a good flow of communication and information between all involved partners and GIZ; Fulfills focal point functions as required; Builds his/her knowledge and skills through asking questions, getting involved in activities and internal training opportunities Will be required to travel within Kenya and Somalia, specifically to the region of Somaliland, and the Horn of Africa region.
