Globally, 1 billion people need, yet cannot access, corrective eyeglasses, making it the largest unmet disability in the world. East Africa is home to 50 million of these people. This has a huge impact on people’s lives. Vision is our most dominant sense. Without glasses it is challenging to earn an income, learn or live a quality life. It also hinders all development agendas governments and agencies may have. A student without glasses is 3x more likely to fall behind! Simply wearing glasses improves incomes by 18%, meaning people do not rely on others for daily tasks - which reduces exposure to financial theft and fraud.
Our solution is a revolutionary, award winning, design of eyeglasses frame and testing process that can be done without a vision care specialist. Dot Glasses distributors can provide eyeglasses for only KES 800 on average. The testing and assembly for each client is done instantly within 5 minutes. The glasses are sold through a diverse network of distribution partners in 8+ countries.
Dot Glasses is transitioning from start-up to scale up and looking for an experienced person to join our team and accelerate our growth.
Objective of the Assignment
The objective of this assignment is to provide accurate and professional interpretation between French and English to ensure effective communication during meetings, trainings, workshops, and engagements involving French-speaking participants.
Scope of Work
The French Interpreter will be responsible for the following:
Interpretation Support
● Provide real-time interpretation between French and English during meetings, trainings, workshops, and discussions.
● Facilitate clear communication between English-speaking and French-speaking participants.
● Ensure that the meaning, tone, and context of messages are accurately conveyed.
Meeting and Training Support
● Support internal and external meetings that involve French-speaking partners or stakeholders.
● Assist during training sessions to ensure French-speaking participants fully understand the content delivered.
Preparation and Coordination
● Review meeting agendas and materials beforehand where possible to familiarize with terminology.
● Coordinate with the Dot Glasses team to ensure effective interpretation support.
Professional Conduct
● Maintain confidentiality of all discussions and materials.
● Demonstrate professionalism, neutrality, and cultural sensitivity at all times.
Deliverables
The interpreter will be expected to:
● Provide accurate interpretation during scheduled meetings or training sessions.
● Deliver translated materials when required within agreed timelines.
● Ensure smooth and effective communication during all supported engagements.
Duration of Engagement
This will be a consultancy-based engagement on an as-needed basis.
Assignments will be scheduled depending on organizational needs and availability of meetings, trainings, or partner engagements requiring interpretation services.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
● 2+ years of experience as a French Interpretor
Compensation & Benefits
● Flexible engagement: Compensation will be provided on a daily or hourly rate, depending on the nature, duration, and scope of the interpretation assignment.
● Payment terms: Payment will be made only for approved and completed assignments, based on the agreed rate and verified hours/days worked.
