Job summary

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and property within the designated area of assignment. This role involves surveillance, patrol duties, and enforcing security protocols as necessary. The Security Officer may also be required to respond to incidents, emergencies, and alarms, ensuring appropriate actions are taken in accordance with company policies and procedures. Additionally, the Security Officer may need to interact with law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and external stakeholders as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DAY

  • Patrols entire grounds before taking over from night officer.
  • Records a handing over report at the start of shift.
  • Vets and inspects all persons coming into and leaving NV grounds.
  • Records personal details of all visitors/vehicles coming into NV, including destination of visitor.
  • Seeks approval from the host regarding indicated destination of visitor.
  • Guiding visitors to their destinations.
  • Where permission is denied by host, the officer will politely turn the visitor away.
  • Makes sure that all NV staff cock in and out.
  • Records all vehicles entering into or leaving NV grounds.
  • Inspects all vehicles coming into or leaving NV grounds.
  • Ensures NV vehicles leaving the compound are fully authorized to do so.
  • Physically confirms NV vehicles are ferrying authorized passengers only (by use of a roll call, gate pass or a boarding pass).
  • Counterchecks gate passes against items leaving NV and incase of any discrepancy immediately report to the Security Supervisor.
  • Makes note that items recorded on the gate pass are returned on date indicated on a gate pass.
  • Accurately maintains and updates all the records at the gate office.
  • Records mileage and fuel level of every NV vehicle at every exit and entry of the vehicle at NV.
  • Ensures no intrusion occurs during the day.
  • Maintains cleanliness around the gate and assist in the ground clearing/cleaning of Area B.
  • Maintains an occurrence book
  • Submits a handing over report at the end of shift
  • Handles the main gate keys and the work phone.
  • Reports all anomalies and incidences to the Security Supervisor.
  • Any other duty allocated to them by the Security Supervisor.


NIGHT

  • Patrols entire grounds before taking over from day officer.
  • Records a taking over report at the start of their shift.
  • Receives and vets authorized visitors and vehicles coming into NV grounds after hours.
  • Inspects and counterchecks gate passes for vehicles and items leaving NV grounds.
  • Patrols their respective area, punching the clocking machine after every 10 minutes if patrolling area B and after every 20 minutes if patrolling area A.
  • Starts patrols at Zone A at 1900hrs to 0530hrs, making a total of 10 clock ins in every clocking machine, in Zone B starts patrolling at 2000hrs to 0530hrs, making a total of 9 clock ins.
  • Ensures all security lights are on.
  • Ensures all areas not in use are locked.
  • Ensures all vehicles parked around the compound are safely locked.
  • Ensures all assets around the compound are safely secured.
  • Ensures the dogs are present and active during patrols.
  • Ensures all unnecessary lights are switched off.
  • Keeps watch, alert and vigilant throughout the night.
  • Notes and reports all anomalies and incidents to the Security Supervisor.
  • Maintains the occurrence book accurately and updated.
  • Submits a handing over report at the end of shift.
  • Any other duty allocated to them by the Immediate Supervisor.


KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma in a relevant field
  • Previous experience in security or a similar field is preferred
  • Experience with surveillance systems, patrolling, and incident response is an asset
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during emergencies or high-pressure situations
  • Excellent surveillance and observation skills
