Hand in Hand Eastern Africa (HiH EA) is a registered NGO in Kenya and is part of the Hand in Hand global network. The organization started operations in Kenya in October 2010 and is currently operating in 26 Field offices within 33 out of 47 Counties in Kenya. HiH EA has so far mobilized, trained and is training over 354,858 members (80% women, 40% youth) who have created over 334,179 enterprises (30% eco-enterprises) and over 452,272 jobs on the Kenyan Programme.

SUMMARY AUDIT ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS. REF.NO: HEA AA-01/2026 (1) POSITION
The Audit Assistant is responsible for supporting the Internal Audit function in providing independent and objective assurance, compliance, and advisory services through audit planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up activities, thereby strengthening governance, risk management, and internal control systems across the organisation.

Duties and responsibilities
• Support audit planning and preparation of audit programmes, working papers, and documentation.
• Execute audit fieldwork, control testing, and verification in line with audit methodologies.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and timely audit documentation and draft findings.
• Support risk assessment and monitoring of control effectiveness to inform audit coverage.
• Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations and management action plans.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement during audits, including audit meetings and exit discussions.
• Maintain audit quality and compliance with internal audit methodologies and professional standards.
• Provide audit administrative and logistical support, including maintenance of audit files and schedules.

Qualifications and Competencies
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field from a recognized and accredited institution is required.

Professional Certification
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent is essential.

Experience
  • 1–2 years' experience in audit, accounting, or a related field is essential.
  • Exposure to audit processes or internal controls is essential.

Behavioral competencies
  • Sound knowledge of internal audit principles, methodologies, and risk management frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of financial and operational audit processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Skilled in audit testing, documentation, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other audit tools.
  • Strong analytical thinking with keen attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent communication skills and sound professional judgement.
  • Good time management with the ability to work under pressure during audit cycles.
  • Willingness to travel to branches and field locations.
