We uphold high standards of discipline.OpportunityWe are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor responsible for driving operational excellence across the school by overseeing the maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and optimal functionality of all buildings and grounds. The role holder will supervise sanitation teams and contractors, ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements, and work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that the school buildings, facilities and grounds are maintained to the highest possible standard, are in a proper working order, ensuring compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation.Reports To: Operations ManagerFunctional Relationships: Finance and Procurement Departments

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities Facilities MaintenanceConduct regular inspections of school buildings and grounds to ensure operational excellence, including cleanliness, safety, sanitation, minor maintenance, and overall organisation of the school environment.Scheduling and supervising the day-to-day maintenance and support of school buildings, landscaping, utilities and facilities. This includes overseeing contractors who perform installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance tasks on various building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) as well as aspects like painting, carpentry, safety protocols, and waste management.Maintain detailed records of all construction and maintenance activities, monitor contractor progress and workmanship, and provide thorough reports on the quality, standards, and completion of all tasks.Proactively monitor facilities (electrical, mechanical, plumbing) and ensure equipment functionality, reporting any faults to the Operations Manager.Oversee waste management processes, including timely garbage collection and proper disposal.Inspect school buildings and grounds to ensure proper safety, cleaning, and sanitation standards.Reporting any security breaches e.g. incidents of vandalism, or unusual wear and tear to the Operations Manager.Health & SafetyConduct proper and timely assessments of health & safety risks, implementing necessary measures and arrangements identified as necessary from assessments.Ensuring the school complies with the health and safety requirements e.g. ventilation, lighting, sanitary and washing facilities.Work with the security team to support in securing all classes and offices after school hours.Be the first point of contact for the external security providers — responding to queries, emergency calls etc.Supervising Support StaffIn collaboration with the Sanitation Team Leads, plan, assign, and manage the cleaning schedules of the sanitation teams.Plan, assign and manage the work of groundskeepers engaged in maintenance and care of trees, flowers, grass, shrubs, lawns etc.Supervise cleaning staff to ensure cleaning schedules are followed and tasks are completed to a high standard; conduct regular inspections of cleanliness across all campuses to identify areas for improvement or attention.Order cleaning supplies and equipment necessary for sanitation efforts and ensure their proper use and storage.Ensuring that staff in the sanitation departments maintain a hygienic and professional appearance, uniform being worn at all times and kept in a clean and tidy condition.Qualifications and SkillsA Diploma in Facility Management, Engineering, Building and Construction or a related technical field.Minimum of 4 years of experience in facility maintenance supervision or management.Proven experience in managing maintenance teams and coordinating repairs.Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural).Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage budgets and control operational costs effectively.Child SafeguardingThe Pharo School Nairobi is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
