Job descriptions & requirements
Marketing & Business Development Manager
An established service business operating in the local and international logistics sector is looking for a Marketing & Business Development Manager to build and lead its Marketing and Business Development function.
This is a building role, not a maintenance role — and a genuine step-up opportunity for the right person. You won’t be stepping into a mature, fully-staffed marketing department with established playbooks and a large team of specialists to direct from day one. You’ll be shaping the function yourself — hands-on — with real room to grow into broader leadership as you build it.
What you’ll be doing
• Build something. Set up the structure, processes, reporting and team this function doesn’t fully have yet.
• Own a function. Take genuine ownership of Marketing and Business Development, with the autonomy that comes with that.
• Lead people. Manage, coach and develop your team — even a small one — with real rigor.
• Grow with the business. This role is explicitly designed to grow in scope and seniority as you prove yourself and as the function matures.
• Have real commercial impact. Drive genuine demand generation, win corporate/institutional relationships, and help the business measure what’s actually working.
Day to day, this means: building and coaching a Marketing team that creates genuine demand; growing Business Development relationships that turn into real commercial opportunities; personally reviewing digital campaigns and marketing analytics and getting hands-on with CRM data; developing corporate prospects and attending important business development meetings yourself; creating the reporting and KPI structure this function doesn’t yet have; and working closely with an established Sales team so what you generate converts cleanly into revenue.
What we’re looking for
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a specialist execution role and not a senior executive position — we’re not looking for a Communications Manager, a Social Media Manager, a Google Ads specialist, a graphic designer, or a pure Sales Manager, and we’re also not looking for someone who has only ever operated at the top of a large, mature marketing department with no appetite to get hands-on.
You’ll bring:
• Experience managing people or a small team — coaching, supervising, developing others.
• Genuine, hands-on marketing experience with real, measurable results you can point to and explain.
• Real business development exposure — you’ve personally identified and pursued opportunities, not just overseen others doing it.
• Comfort working directly with numbers and CRM data.
• The judgement to know when to do something yourself, when to delegate it, and when to bring in outside help.
• Sound commercial thinking — you reason in terms of return, not just activity.
• Experience building something — a process, a team, a system — where relatively little existed before.
Prior experience in logistics, relocation, real estate, hospitality, or another relationship-driven service business is a plus but not required. This is a genuine step-up opportunity for a strong performer ready for broader leadership — not a lateral move for someone who has already run a large department, and not an entry-level position either.
Compensation
Gross monthly base salary: KES 80,000–120,000, depending on capability and experience, plus a performance-linked incentive opportunity of up to approximately 10%–30% of base salary depending on performance.
The application process
This role will be filled through a structured process: a short compensation-fit check, a detailed application questionnaire, evidence-based screening, interviews with shortlisted candidates, and — for candidates who progress — a practical business assessment.
We’re genuinely interested in what you’ve actually done, so please answer with specific, measurable examples rather than general descriptions of your experience.
