ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) was founded in 1965 under the Kenya Red Cross Society Act (Chapter 256 Laws of Kenya) and officially acknowledged by the Kenyan government as a voluntary aid society working alongside public authorities. It holds the distinction of being the sole National Red Cross Society in Kenya.
Regarding its relationship with public authorities, KRCS maintains independence, enabling it to operate in alignment with the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its Constitution is rooted in the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977, to which Kenya is a signatory

JOB SUMMARY

The County Youth Officer will be the focal person for the Youth programs in Nairobi providing both coordination and technical support to volunteers. The youth officer will closely work with the Regional and National Youth Office to ensure effective monitoring, coordination, evaluation and documentation of programme progress.     RequirementsMinimum Qualifications and Experience   Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or in a related field from a recognized institution, and in-depth knowledge of the current youth development priorities in Kenya.  Demonstrated experience in youth development work.  Proven ability to work across the project cycle management.  Sound knowledge and skills in project planning and management.  Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with administrative and community structures.  Experience in implementation of projects in multi-stakeholders environment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program development/ implementation Provide technical assistance and day-to-day coordination of the Youth Programs  Maintain routine communication internally (KRCS’ Youth Office) for effective delivery and coordination of the programme.  Prepare periodic programme update reports documenting programme progress against the set targets.  Maintain budget and track expenditures at the implementation level.  With support from the Youth Office ensure the aligning of Youth activities to the overall KRCS Youth Program objectivesMonitor planned activities to ensure implementation constraints receive timely corrective actions. Support and strengthen the youth organizational capacity through the County Youth Board  Work with the County Board to ensure strict adherence to statutory requirements of the County Youth Board  Identify and map out potential and strategic partners to support youth activities  Develop sustainable resource mobilization strategies in line with the KRCS resource mobilization strategies  Work with the County Coordinator to devise communication and engagement strategy to advocate for youth empowerment agenda across the county  To oversee the implementation of youth programs across all Red Cross school clubs, Red Cross University/ College Chapters and other youth groups in the county.  Ensure up to date records/ database of all the youth leaders, youth members and youth volunteers across all the counties in the countyStrengthen the partnership between KRCS and all the patrons within Nairobi County which will ensure seamless implementation of the in-school programsIdentify risks to youth programming in the county and device mitigation strategies Coordinate the implementation of joint youth development initiatives at the county level any other duties that may be assigned from time to time  Knowledge managementCreation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing and documenting lessons learned, success stories and best practices, strategies, and approaches Track best practices and maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, opportunities and thematic areas in youth engagement efforts that are key to the county  Research to identify appropriate stakeholders and cost-effective program components and put its implement to practice.
