JOB SUMMARY
To provide specialized clinical oncology care by diagnosing and managing cancer patients throughintegrated treatment plans that combine systemic anti-cancer therapies and radiotherapy. Key Qualifications and Experience Requirementsi. Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from an institution recognized by the Kenya MedicalPractitioners and Dentists Council.ii. Masters degree in Medicine in Clinical Oncology or equivalent from an institutionrecognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.iii. Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.iv. Retention in the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council register.v. Recognition as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.vi. Valid Practice License as a specialist from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and DentistsCouncil.vii. Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.viii. Proficiency in computer applications.ix. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Diagnosing and staging cancers through clinical evaluation, imaging interpretation, andpathology review.ii. Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans that integrate systemic anticancer therapies (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy) and radiotherapy.iii. Prescribing and monitoring systemic therapies, ensuring safe administration and managingtreatment-related toxicities.iv. Collaborating with radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and multidisciplinary teamsto provide comprehensive cancer care.v. Participating in tumor boards and multidisciplinary case discussions to optimize treatmentstrategies.vi. Providing palliative care, pain management, and symptom control for patients requiringsupportive care.vii. Engaging in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous medicaleducation to advance oncology practice.viii. Mentoring junior doctors, interns, and medical students in clinical oncology principles andpractice.ix. Ensuring adherence to national and international oncology protocols, safety standards, andethical guidelines.x. Any other duty as may be assigned.
