JOB SUMMARY
To diagnose and treat diseases by utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and advanced imaging techniques,interpreting nuclear medicine studies, and providing therapeutic interventions while ensuringpatient safety and adherence to radiation protection protocols.Key Qualifications and Experience Requirementsi. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from an institutionrecognized by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.ii. Master of Medicine in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent from a recognized institution by theKenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.iii. Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.iv. Retention in the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council register.v. Recognition as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.vi. Valid Practice License as a specialist from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and DentistsCouncil.vii. Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.viii. Proficiency in computer applications.ix. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Head, Integrated Molecular Imaging Centre, the position holder will beresponsible for the following:i. Evaluating patient medical history and clinical indications to determine suitability fornuclear medicine procedures.ii. Prescribing and supervising diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures,including PET/CT, SPECT, and radionuclide therapies.iii. Interpreting nuclear imaging studies and preparing comprehensive diagnostic reports forreferring physicians.iv. Ensuring safe preparation, administration, and handling of radiopharmaceuticals incompliance with radiation safety standards.v. Monitoring patients during and after procedures for adverse reactions and providingappropriate interventions.vi. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, radiologists, andtechnologists, to optimize patient care.vii. Implementing radiation protection protocols for patients, staff, and the environment inaccordance with regulatory requirements.viii. Participating in clinical research, continuous medical education, and quality improvementinitiatives in nuclear medicine.ix. Training and mentoring junior doctors, interns, and technologists in nuclear medicinepractices.x. Any other duty that may be assigned.
