Senior Medical Specialist (Gastroenterology)

JOB SUMMARY

To provide specialized diagnosis, treatment, and management of gastrointestinal disordersthrough advanced clinical evaluation and endoscopic procedures, while ensuring adherence toevidence-based practices, patient safety, and contributing to research, training, andmultidisciplinary care within the hospital..Requirementsi. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized bythe Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.ii. Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from an institution recognized by the KenyaMedical Practitioners and Dentists Council.iii. Sub-specialty in Gastroenterology from an institution recognized by the Kenya MedicalPractitioners and Dentists Council.iv. At least three (3) years working experience as a Medical Specialist.v. Retention in the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council register.vi. Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.vii. Recognition as a sub-specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.viii. Valid Practice License from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.ix. Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.x. Proficiency in computer applications.xi. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.

RESPONSIBILITIES

i. Providing expert diagnosis and management of patients with gastrointestinal disorders,including complex and chronic conditions.ii. Performing advanced endoscopic procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy,and therapeutic interventions in accordance with clinical guidelines.iii. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, oncologists, andnutritionists, to deliver comprehensive patient care.iv. Developing individualized treatment plans for patients with gastrointestinal diseases,ensuring evidence-based practice.v. Monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatment regimens based on clinical responseand diagnostic findings.vi. Ensuring compliance with hospital protocols, national clinical standards, and infectioncontrol measures during procedures.vii. Participating in clinical research, academic teaching, and continuous professionaldevelopment to advance gastroenterology practice.viii. Mentoring junior doctors, interns, and medical students in gastroenterology procedures andpatient management.ix. Any other duty as may be assigned
