JOB SUMMARY

Required Experience and EducationA minimum of a Diploma in Environmental Studies, Community Development, Industrial Technology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A degree will be an added advantage.At least two (2) years of relevant experience in project implementation, preferably within solid waste management, circular economic Initiatives, youth and women’s livelihoods, or youth empowerment or enterprise development programs.Hands-on experience in plastic waste management and recycling technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Implementation and CoordinationCoordinate day-to-day implementation of project activities in Mombasa County, ensuring alignment with Mastercard’s youth employability strategy and the plastic waste-to-construction materials value chain.Support the establishment and operationalization of Inclusive plastic waste collection hubs and processing units, prioritizing the participation of youth, women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.Facilitate the gender-responsive and socially inclusive recruitment and mobilization of project participants, ensuring equitable opportunities for all (including youth and women groups).Supervise production of recycled plastic construction products (e.g., bricks, tiles, fencing posts, etc.), ensuring adherence to quality and environmental safety standards.2. Training and Capacity BuildingFacilitate logistics for technical skills training (waste sorting, machinery operation, product manufacturing), entrepreneurship, business development and market systems training sessions.Integrate life skills, drug and substance abuse prevention, and positive youth development modules into training curricula.Provide ongoing mentorship and follow-up support to trained cooperatives and youth/women groups, with a focus on retention and progression.Document training sessions, attendance, outputs, and success stories for reporting and learning purposes.3. Monitoring, Reporting and DocumentationCollect and compile disaggregated data (by age, gender, disability, etc.) on project activities, outputs, and outcomes using approved tools.Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports for submission to the Project Manager, highlighting job creation metrics, waste diversion volumes, and social impact indicators related to substance abuse reduction.Maintain updated records on participants, production levels, inventory, and market linkages.Support baseline and endline evaluations and data collection processes,4. Stakeholder Engagement and CommunicationLiaise with county government departments (Environment, Youth, Trade, and Housing) to align project activities with county policies, secure support, enhance project visibility and coordination and explore co-funding opportunitiesSupport organization of community awareness campaigns, clean-up drives, exhibitions, and product demonstrations.Build and maintain positive strategic working partnerships with implementing partners, community leaders, local institutions, private sector actors (construction companies, retailers, off takers), financial institutions, and community-based organizations to strengthen market linkages and sustainability.Organize and support community awareness campaigns, clean-up drives, exhibitions, and product demonstrations to promote behavior change and market demand.5. Procurement and Logistics SupportSupport the procurement, delivery, and accountability of project equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring value for money and transparency.Ensure proper storage, use, and maintenance of project assets and tools at field sites.Facilitate logistical arrangements for field activities, meetings, and training.Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks; acquire relevant knowledge and skills to enable you to understand and promote the safeguarding policy and procedures; report violations; perform your duty and responsibility to safeguard and promote appropriate behavior; and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the organization’s policies and values.
