Electrical Engineer
Job summary
Professional Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical and solar energy engineering, with a proven track record of supervising on-site installations and working with industrial equipment or power distribution.
Job descriptions & requirements
Key Responsibilities
• Solar & Electrical System Design: Design, review, and modify detailed electrical schematic diagrams, wiring layouts, line drawings, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems using AutoCAD and manual drafting tools.
• System Sizing & Load Analysis (Solar Sizing): Conduct precise electrical load calculations, solar sizing, and component selection for off-grid, hybrid, and grid-tied solar applications, as well as dedicated battery backup power storage systems.
• Borehole & Surface Water Pumping Solutions (Pump Sizing): Evaluate, size (pump sizing), and design complete water pumping systems, including solar-powered, grid-connected, and generator-driven surface or submersible pumps, ensuring seamless integration with water yields and control panel logic.
• Solar Water Heating (SWH) Systems: Assess client needs, size, and design efficient domestic and commercial solar water heating systems, overseeing physical installation, plumbing integration, and thermal performance testing.
• Backup Power & Generator Integration: Design, configure, and integrate emergency backup power systems, including diesel/petrol generators, battery banks, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) for seamless power transition during utility grid failures.
• Site Assessments & Feasibility: Conduct detailed on-site technical field assessments and comprehensive feasibility studies to inform custom engineering designs, equipment selection, and overall project approaches.
• Technical Specifications & Costing (BOQs): Prepare and manage comprehensive technical documentation, material specifications, cost estimations, and detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for project proposals, client quotes, and tender applications.
• Site Installation & Supervision: Oversee and supervise all physical mechanical, electrical, and solar installations on-site, managing field technicians, technical subcontractors, or casual laborers to ensure works conform to engineering standards.
• Testing & Commissioning: Conduct rigorous technical testing, load checks, pressure tests, and final commissioning of electrical networks, solar arrays, inverters, backup batteries, solar water heaters, generators, and motorized pumping machinery before official hand-over.
• Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose complex operational faults, isolate systemic failures, and execute hands-on electrical and mechanical repairs. This includes servicing faulty control panels, rewiring connections, replacing damaged solar PV modules, fixing water heater plumbing or elements, repairing pump components, and troubleshooting inverter or backup battery configurations.
• Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure all engineering design and field deployment practices strictly comply with local safety standards, energy sector regulations (such as EPRA/EBK guidelines), water resource regulations, and occupational health rules.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze and interpret field technical data, monitor system performance metrics, and compile precise progress logs, site assessment briefs, and commissioning reports using Microsoft Excel and related project tools.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on shifting industry standards, emerging engineering technologies, and best operational practices within the electrical, solar, water services, and renewable energy sectors.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
• Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• Field Readiness & Extensive Travel: A strict readiness to work out in the field with extensive travel is mandatory. Must be fully willing and able to travel regularly to remote project locations for hands-on field operations, client engagement, and site supervision.
• Professional Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical and solar energy engineering, with a proven track record of supervising on-site installations and working with industrial equipment or power distribution.
• Software & Data Literacy: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD for technical drawing and Microsoft Excel for data analysis, performance metrics tracking, and technical reporting.
• Sustainable Practices: A solid understanding of renewable energy system integration and sustainable, resource-efficient engineering practices.
• Leadership & Field Execution: Demonstrated experience managing, coordinating, and leading on-site technicians, subcontractors, or casual laborers under tight project deadline
