General Purpose
Our client, a leading chocolate and ice cream manufacturing company, is seeking to recruit an experienced, hands-on, and technically skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to manage and support the maintenance of plant machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, industrial refrigeration systems, and cold chain assets across its operations in Regen, near Kikuyu Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum equipment reliability, plant uptime, safety, and operational efficiency through effective preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Location: Regen, Near Kikuyu Town | Gross Salary: Ksh. 50,000
Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical plant equipment.
• Manage and maintain industrial refrigeration systems, blast freezers, cold rooms, conveyors, dryers, and ventilation systems.
• Plan, implement, and monitor preventive and planned maintenance schedules.
• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Supervise technicians, contractors, and maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Lead equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
• Manage maintenance spare parts, tools, maintenance costs, and external contractors.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment downtime, maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment failures.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve plant uptime, reliability, and maintenance efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety, food safety, environmental, and company standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, maintenance costs, and operational risks.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with established engineering procedures and best practices.
Requirements & Qualifications
• Degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
• 5–7 years of proven experience in plant, processing, manufacturing, or facility maintenance.
• Strong hands-on experience in industrial refrigeration and cold-chain systems.
• Experience working with blast freezers, cold rooms, conveyors, dryers, and ventilation systems.
• Good knowledge of diesel generators, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, and plumbing systems.
• Strong experience in preventive maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Proven experience supervising technicians and managing external contractors.
• HVAC or Refrigeration certification will be an added advantage.
• Experience in food processing, cold chain, dairy, feed milling, or a similar manufacturing environment will be highly preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.
