JOB OBJECTIVE
Provides support to the HSE Manager by ensuring the safety and general well-being of all staff and carrying out routine checks to ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Health, Safety and Environment Management
- Provides input into the formulation and update of HSE policies and procedures.
- Supports hazard management procedures within the Organization.
- Supports the coordination of health surveillance and waste management activities.
- Makes recommendations to Management on staff rotation and staff transfer based on health implications observed as a result of working with hazardous chemicals.
- Manages the proper safekeeping of the plant and 0ffice environment.
- Carries out daily inspections of the plant and office premises.
- Identifies potential risks, evaluates the risk level and provides effective risk control measures.
- Reviews existing HSE measures, programs and procedures, and communicates identified improvement areas to the HSE Manager
- Monitors employees to ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
- Promotes a culture of safety, sanitation and hygiene across the organization.
- Creates and implements pest control measures.
- Liaise with pest control vendor on pest control issues on site.
- Carries out emergency equipment audit.
- Supports the waste evacuation process.
Incident Investigation
- Assists in the investigation of any safety incidents and accidents that occurs in the workplace.
- Takes prompt emergency action and ensures any injuries are promptly attended to.
- Implements precautionary measures to ensure reported safety incidents do not reoccur.
Safety Training and Orientation
- Identifies HSE training needs of existing and newly deployed staff, prepares HSE training schedule and makes available training materials to staff.
- Conducts HSE training to maintain appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and emergency preparedness of staff.
- Administers trainings to staff and contractors on HSE matters.
- Trains visitors and clients’ representatives at the point of entry into the plant on HSE precautions
Acts on behalf of the HSE Manager in his/her absence.
Waste Management
- Monitors waste disposal processes to ensure they are properly disposed, and do not pose a health risk to staff and the environment.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Keeps records of all HSE activities
- Prepares and submits reports on HSE activities.
- Investigates and prepares special incident reports whenever an incident occurs.
Business Continuity and planning: HSE Emergence Response Team
- Assesses the risk of the incident to life.
- Ensures that legal responsibilities for health and safety are always met.
- Considers the environmental implications of incidents.
- Ensures that all employees are evacuated during life threating incidents like fire, chemical spillage etc.
- Liaises with emergency services such s police, fire and medical services.
Integrated Management System
- Documents, implements, and maintains the requirements of the Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Health and Safety management systems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Education
- Minimum of a first degree or HND in Sciences or an Engineering related discipline is required
- Relevant professional certifications is required e.g. DOSH, NEMA, MoH and NACOSH.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry
