Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, located in Nairobi, Kenya. The PostgreSQL Database Administrator will manage, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL databases to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Daily responsibilities include installation, configuration, and upgrades of PostgreSQL systems, performing backups and recovery, tuning database performance, managing replication, and supporting development teams with database design and queries. In addition, the role involves creating standards for database operations and ensuring compliance with data protection policies.

Qualifications

• Expertise in PostgreSQL Installation, Configuration, and Administration
• Proficiency in Database Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, and Troubleshooting
• Knowledge of Backup and Recovery strategies as well as Disaster Recovery planning
• Experience with Replication techniques, High Availability configurations, and Clustering
• Ability to manage large-scale databases and perform capacity planning
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments for database operations
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or SQL for automation
• Understanding of security best practices for database environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Certifications in PostgreSQL or relevant database technologies are a plus
• 3+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience
