Job summary

The Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, coordination, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, firefighting, plumbing, and piping. The role will ensure mechanical systems are technically sound, energy-efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with applicable standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive post-qualification experience, preferably in high-value building or industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, firefighting, plumbing, piping, and related building services.
  • Expertise in mechanical design and simulation software such as Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Trane TRACE, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of international mechanical codes and standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and applicable Kenyan standards.
  • Proven experience managing mechanical project lifecycles from design through installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • High degree of professional ethics and technical responsibility.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical design is an added advantage.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead mechanical design, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation for projects.
  • Design and coordinate HVAC, piping, firefighting, plumbing, and related mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate mechanical works with structural, electrical, architectural, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates.
  • Monitor mechanical project budgets, schedules, and cost controls.
  • Advise on procurement of mechanical equipment and materials, including chillers, pumps, and fire protection systems.
  • Support procurement negotiations and vendor performance management.
  • Ensure mechanical works comply with approved designs, technical standards, HSE requirements, and Kenyan regulations.
  • Maintain mechanical safety certifications and project documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
