JOB SUMMARY

Browns Plantations Kenya Limited is based in Kericho and Bomet counties. It has over 5000 Hectares of Tea and over 2000 Hectares of forestry. There are four tea factories, nine tea estates, a sawmill, and forestry operation. We invite applications for a Mechanical Workshop Foreman position at the Engineering Department, Brown Plantations Kenya Limited (formerly James Finlay Kenya Limited). This is a Junior Management Position. THE JOB Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Foreman will assist the manager in the coordination and supervision of the mechanical workshop operations, effectively and efficiently, in conjunction with other Engineering Sections, factory/site management, and Engineering leadership.REQUIREMENTS Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, production, plant, or a relevant engineering discipline.Minimum 15 years of practical experience in workshop operations, mechanical Installation and maintenance.At least 5 years of experience in leadership levels such as Assistant Foreman, Factory supervisor, or Factory shift in charge, etc.In-depth understanding of mechanical operations, technical designs, and good machinery and equipment operations skills.In-depth understanding of tea machinery and equipment maintenance/repairs, and tea manufacture.Strong technical knowledge in the workshop’s trade (mechanical, fabrication, machining, welding, etc.)Clear understanding of Engineering standards, Company policies, Human rights, and environmental requirements. Proven track record of performance in past roles held.Proven leadership and team management skillsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work plans.Competence in scheduling, job planning, and resource allocationExcellent problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesGood communication and interpersonal skillsUnderstanding of workplace health & safety regulationsBasic computer literacy (job tracking, reporting, email, spreadsheets)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement mechanical workshop SOPs, policies, and instructions under the guidance of the workshop manager.Execute approved mechanical jobs in conjunction with relevant teams, sections, and site managers under the direction of the workshop manager and the Engineering manager.Receive job requisitions, review, and assign artisans and team leaders for execution.Proactively address workshop operational requirements by assessing the needs versus available resources.Supervise jobs allocated to the workshop team, on sites, and at the main workshop.Oversee the operation and performance of the main workshop machinery, tools, and related resources.Implement environment, health, and safety policies while executing workshop operations.Supervise employees to establish a highly disciplined and motivated team.Prepare reports as and when required by management.APPLICATION PROCEDURE If you meet the requirements of this position, please submit an application, including a detailed CV, your postal, e-mail, and telephone contacts, and the names and addresses of three referees, one of whom must be your current supervisor not later than 31 December 2025.
