JOB SUMMARY

THE ORGANIZATIONBrowns Plantations Kenya Limited is part of the Browns Group. Browns is a highly successful diversified conglomerate and part of the LOLC Holdings PLC group of companies, which is one of the largest and most profitable listed corporations in Sri Lanka. It is headquartered in Sri Lanka and has a proud heritage in operating plantation businesses in Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, and Kenya. We invite applications for a Factory Foreman position within the Tea Estates Division (formerly James Finlay Kenya Limited). This is a Junior Management Position.THE JOB Reporting to the Assistant Factory Manager, the factory foreman is responsible for managing factory machinery and related resources effectively and efficiently; performing Installation, repair, service, and maintenance work in order to make the plant and equipment for the production process. This is done in conjunction with the factory management team to ensure the production of high-quality and consistent Teas that meet customer requirements.REQUIREMENTS Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline with at least 5 years of practical experience as an Assistant Factory Foreman, or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or related field, but with long experience on the job within a tea factory set up. Good understanding of manufacturing operations, together with machinery and equipment maintenance, company policies, and practices.Ability to influence and strong accountability.Ability to solve complex manufacturing problems.Able to work with minimal supervision as a team member.Possess good interpersonal, industrial relations, and communication skills.Strong knowledge of production machinery and techniques.Knowledge of engineering drawings.Good supervisory, communication, and interpersonal relations skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee machinery and structural installations by offering technical and professional expertise by working closely in liaison with the engineering department and the factory senior management. Take a leading role in conjunction with factory management towards achieving the highest standard of the factory Equipment Efficiency (OEE) to consistently deliver quality tea. Ensure that plant and equipment breakdowns are kept to a minimum and at the most cost-effective level while producing quality products.Ensure that optimum machinery spares are available as and when required.Coordinate major factory maintenance operations in close liaison with the central engineering department while advising factory management in a professional manner. Continuously improve & implement preventive and corrective maintenance techniques to offer high plant availability.Coordinate the implementation of machinery safety and safe operating procedures in the factory to ensure the safety of all users.Implement environment, health, and safety policies and procedures within the workplace. This includes ensuring you, together with employees under your control, know and understand their responsibilities under the Health and Safety Policy and management system.Supervise employees to establish a highly disciplined and motivated maintenance team in the factory.Participate in the implementation of quality management systems in the factory in compliance with customer specifications and statutory requirements.Prepare periodical reports as and when required by management.Verify the requirements of technical expenses and advise senior management regarding authorization.
